Your Role as a Warehouse Operative

Warehouse operatives deal with goods and products that come into the warehouse or a stockroom. Daily tasks would include, checking for damaged or missing items, moving stock around by hand or using forklift truck, picking and packing orders and keeping the paperwork up to date. A multi-skilled and adaptable warehouse operative will be Physically and mentally adept in providing excellent working practice within the warehouse environment. Some Warehouse operatives will also hold Fork Lift Truck (FLT) licenses in order to assist with the movement of goods in the warehouse or loading onto trucks.

Daily Duties of a Warehouse Operative

Your duties as a Warehouse worker will vary dependent on the exact environment but some general roles include:
  • Prepare and complete orders  
  • Process warehouse stock products 
  • Perform inventory controls and quality checks
  • Keep a clean and safe working environment 
  • Abide by Manual Handling and Health and Safety guidelines/regulation
  • Complete diary logs
  • Report any discrepancies
  • Communicate and cooperate with supervisors and coworkers
  • Operate and maintain warehouse equipment
  • Assist with vehicle loading

Skills and Experience for Warehouse Operative Jobs

For many of our temporary roles at Swanstaff we do ask that you have some warehouse experience, as you may work at multiple clients and will need to go in with some knowledge, however, we do also have roles for those with no experience, so being a warehouse operative can be a great first-step onto the career ladder. There are no required qualifications for most Warehouse operative roles, although having a FLT License is desirable.
